Jan 22, 1973 was a turning point in America.  A terrible turning point.  The U.S. Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, decided for us all that it would now be legal for a mother to have the baby in her womb killed if she did not want that baby.  Abortion was legalized.  The door that is the attack on life was kicked wide open only to lead to more destruction of life as well as moving society into a deepening, stench of death and disorder.  The value of a life, of all life, of your life and mine was dramatically altered.  Life was cheapened and commercialized in a new way.  Death was now for sale! And it continues to this day.  The very disturbing numbers of babies that have been brutalized in the safest place that a baby could exist, their mother’s womb, is staggering.  More than 50 million have been murdered in some of the most vile ways that any human being could treat another.  However 50 million deaths does not take into account the number of deaths that we will never know, and that is the number of children who lose their lives through abortifacients such as “the pill” or “iud.”

Why does this go on?  Why does the brutality continue?  The answer is simple.  It’s not because the grip of the media or the government or the educational system is too tight and we just can’t break it.  The main reason that this tragedy is repeated dozens and dozens of times everyday is because I have let it go on.  My voice has been too silent to cry out for the unborn.  My hands and feet have been too slow and inconsistent in acting on behalf of the unborn.  My time has been too consumed with selfish and worldly things when more of it could have been dedicated to the unborn.  And My heart has not prayed with enough fervor and love for the unborn.

The hearts of those who believe that life is cheap and for sale will not be moved as profoundly as they could be if our attempt to reach out to them comes only from the changing of laws and political position.  Those things are very important!  But the most thorough conversion is the conversion that comes from the deepest recesses of the heart.  When our hearts are on fire and burn with a true respect for, and love of life then more of the world will be set ablaze, and by the grace of God more minds and hearts will see the beauty and majesty of the image of God in each and everyone of us.  Remember, the mouth speaks to the ear but the heart speaks to the heart.
